The transition from college education to professional employment is becoming increasingly complex as artificial intelligence (AI), automation, digital platforms and changing recruitment practices reshape the skills expected from graduates. Academic qualifications remain important, but students also need practical capabilities, digital confidence, analytical thinking, communication skills and the ability to learn continuously. This article examines the changing needs of college students and proposes a student-centred framework for strengthening career readiness in the age of AI. Drawing on recent international guidance on AI in education, employment trends and the publicly documented academic context of AJK College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, the article identifies six interconnected areas of student development: responsible AI use, digital and data literacy, critical thinking, practical experience, professional communication and continuous skill development.
